Alternatives & Resources

Before making the decision to surrender your pet to a shelter, you may want to consider other rehoming options. You can rehome your pet without taking them a shelter!

  1. Prepare your pet for adoption. Increase your pets adoptability by having them spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
  2. Take a photo and write a bio. Take a clear photo of your pet with good lighting and free from distractions in the background. Try to capture their smile and personality! Bios should highlight their best characteristics and personality. Do they like treats or toys?
  3. Create an online profile. List your pet with reputable partners who specialize in connecting pets who need a good home with families looking to adopt, like Rehome by Adopt a Pet.
  4. Market your pet! With your photo, bio, and rehome link ready, share your pet with friends, family, and coworkers. Post your pet on NextDoor, neighborhood social media groupss, and your social media accounts.
  5. Be patient and don’t lost hope. The right family is out there!
